Multiple attacks on oil and gas facilities in Saudi Arabia have resulted in a 600,000-bopd reduction to the country’s oil production capacity and a 700,000-bopd loss in throughput along the East-West Pipeline, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported on Thursday.
According to an official source at the Saudi Ministry of Energy, attacks on the Manifa oilfield have resulted in a reduction of 300,000 bopd in its production capacity, adding to the 300,000 bopd in capacity lost at the Khurais oilfield in earlier attacks.
The ministry source said the recent attacks targeted oil and gas production, transportation, downstream facilities and power infrastructure in Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Yanbu Industrial City.
Damage to Saudi Aramco’s East-West Pipeline has resulted in a loss of about 700,000 bopd in throughput. The pipeline has become the country’s main export route following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Downstream, strikes on refining facilities in Ras Tanura and Riyadh, as well as SATORP in Jubail and Samref in Yanbu, have disrupted exports of refined products. LPG and natural gas liquids flows have also been affected by fire damage at Juaymah.
In a separate statement, TotalEnergies said one of SATORP’s two processing trains had been damaged. Both units have been shut down as a precaution and to assess the impact on operations. TotalEnergies holds a 37.5% stake in SATORP, with Saudi Aramco holding 62.5%.
